ID-PRESERVED is an international collaborative project funded by the ERA4Health Partnership, and co-funded by the European Union, under the 2023 CardInnov Call: “Research targeting development of innovative therapeutic strategies in cardiovascular disease”
Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) is becoming the most prevalent form of heart failure worldwide. Despite its increasing impact, current management relies primarily on treating symptoms and underlying conditions, with limited evidence-based pharmacotherapies available. This highlights an urgent clinical need for innovative solutions.
One of the main obstacles in developing effective HFpEF therapies is its pathophysiological and etiological heterogeneity. This complexity makes it difficult to create targeted treatments.
Recent research suggests that exacerbated inflammatory responses may play a key role in many forms of HFpEF. However, the specific immunomodulatory mechanisms driving the disease remain poorly understood.
Age-related clonal hematopoiesis—a condition caused by acquired genetic mutations—has emerged as a powerful cardiovascular risk factor. It is associated with increased inflammation and a higher risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, opening doors for precision medicine approaches. However, its role in HFpEF remains unexplored.
To tackle these challenges, ID-PRESERVED unites leading researchers across Europe (Spain, France, Netherlands, Hungary, and Italy) in a transnational collaboration that brings together:
New inflammatory drivers of HFpEFnec.
Whether they can be targeted with existing HFpEF treatments.
New anti-inflammatory therapies for HFpEF.
By uncovering novel mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets, ID-PRESERVED has the potential to revolutionize HFpEF treatment, leading to a significant scientific and socioeconomic impact.
